Israel Fights Hezbollah Along Wide Front

Israeli forces battled Hezbollah across Lebanon’s south, hours after Jerusalem ordered its army to punch all the way to the Litani River. Late Tuesday, Lebanese officials also reported a major Israeli operation involving helicopters near Baalbek, well north of the river.
Thousands of Israeli troops were operating along the Israel-Lebanon border. Additional soldiers crossed into Lebanon on Tuesday, Israeli defense officials said, joining forces already fighting there.
The ferocity of Tuesday’s battles, the determination of the Israelis to keep fighting and the minimal diplomatic progress toward an immediate cease-fire all indicated the war is more likely to escalate than end soon.
