Obama Started It – No, McCain Did

Who started it? That’s what parents usually want to know when an argument breaks out among siblings. Everyone loses privileges but the instigator suffers most.

So who started the latest dustup between the presidential candidates that has Paris Hilton inserting herself in the middle of the campaign?

Let’s go to the videotape. In an ad that John McCain’s campaign put up last week, Barack Obama is compared to Hilton and, in case the viewer didn’t get the point, her evil twin, Britney Spears.

“He’s the biggest celebrity in the world,” an announcer intones, making Obama the third of the trio. “But is he ready to lead?”

In a world chock-full of cheesy celebrities, is it an accident that the two most intentionally vulgar, proudly promiscuous, and artificially blonde were featured in this one? We’ll have to ask the author. The ad ends with the voice of the Republican candidate for president. “I’m John McCain and I approved this ad.”

Obama had the maturity not to respond. Not so Hilton, who took time out from her busy schedule of shopping, shopping and shopping to notice there was an election in November.
